A Wedding, A Death and A Gala

Across the world, so many significant events have taken place within the past week. Thankfully, such occurrences have been positive---well, sort of.

Prince William who?

First, there's the royal wedding which my friends and I watched at the beach via live streaming. I know a lot of us have been hoping Sarah Burton would make it. At first, I thought the dress was a let-down considering it's McQueen. I was personally expecting something more edgy and young. I definitely do not hate it though and I guess it's more sensible that she went for something more classic. For what it's worth, the cut and the construction are incredible and Kate Catherine looked radiant and happy. Also, kudos to Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie for the audacity to wear the most talked about, Gaga-ish headpieces. Then there's Pippa, stunning!

In other news, Osama Bin Laden is dead, or so it has been reported and confirmed by President Obama. That's good news but I know I'm not the only one who has this sense of foreboding following his death. Did they really need to throw his body into the ocean?

Monday night marked the most anticipated red carpet event in the fashion world, The Met Costume Institute Gala featuring the works of the late legendary fashion designer Alexander McQueen.

Having known for his risque, avant garde pieces, you would think the guests would come to the Metropolitan Museum in more than the usual designer duds and perhaps even wear McQueen's most exquisite creations. This, after all, is a tribute to the art genius that he was. But apparently, most of them didn't get the memo. Thank goodness for Christina Ricci, Dakota Fanning, Leelee Sobieski, Liv Tyler and of course the ever reliable Daphne Guinness who is a good friend of McQueen. Among the immortals models, Shalom, Gisele, Natalia, Crystal Renn and Raquel Zimmerman brought their A game. Hamish Bowles and Jenna Lyons also deserve major credit for their fantastic, unconventional outfit choices.

Daphne Guinness in Alexander McQueen never disappoints.

The little girl with no front teeth is now a lovely, young lady in Valentino.

Vogue's Hamish Bowles in custom Alexander McQueen. Look how tight those trousers are. Awesome!

Supermodel Shalom Harlow is a vision in Marchesa.

Look at her. Gisele being all Gisele and shit (in a floor sweeping McQueen gown).

Christina Ricci in Zac Posen. This girl has been acing Red Carpet 101.

Oh, and Bryanboy was also at the event rubbing elbows with the queen bee Anna and with models, celebrities and designers. He was in head-to-toe Dolce and Gabbana. Wow.
